Despite being one of the most popular herbs in medieval Europe, this amazing plant that could, has been brought to the table since the time of the ancient greeks and romans – it was believed to cure everything from rheumatism to sore throats and indigestion.
I shall have to experiment with Medieval travel superstition by tucking some leaves into my shoes for swift feet and its deodorizing properties.
But as the name suggests, it was also thought to be an aphrodisiac – the “love parsley”. Bonus points for Latin name!
