Quiz 8: Can you name this medicinal herb?
Oh Canada! Sometimes called Bethroot this red version of Ontario’s flora symbol is used in the same way as its white counterparts: astringent, tonic, and antiseptic. It is said to have been much used by the aboriginal women to promote parturition childbirth as the astringent properties of the chemical compound Trilline have been found useful in healing hemorrhaging. Red Bethroot is listed in folklore to cure nosebleeds by merely “sniffing the roots”. Bonus points for Latin name!
